FAQ

What is the difference among a virus or a bacterium and what are their differences?

A virus is a microscopic organism that cannot reproduce outside its host cell. A bacterium is a single-celled organism that reproduces by splitting itself in two. Viruses have a very small size (about 20 nanometers), while bacteria is larger (up to one micron).

Viruses are often spread through contact of infected bodily fluids like saliva, urine or semen. Bacteria can be spread by direct contact with infected objects and surfaces.

Viral infections can also be introduced to our bodies by a variety of cuts, scrapes or bites. They may also enter through the nose, mouth, eyes, ears, vagina, rectum , or anus.

Bacteria can enter the body through wounds. They may also be introduced into our bodies through food and water as well as soil, dirt, dust, and animals.

Both bacteria as well as viruses can cause illness. Viruses can not multiply within the host. Viral infections can only cause diseases in living cells.

Bacteria can spread within the host and cause illness. They can also invade other parts of your body. That's why we need antibiotics to kill them.

How much should my body weight be for my height? BMI calculator and chart

This BMI chart will help you determine if your body is overweight or obese.

What lifestyle is most healthy?

Living a healthy lifestyle is one that encourages you to eat well, exercise regularly, get enough sleep, and avoids stress. If you follow these guidelines, you will be able to lead a long and healthy life.

It's easy to start small with your exercise and diet. You can lose weight by walking 30 minutes each day if you are looking to lose weight. You can also take up dancing or swimming if you are looking to be more active. An online fitness program such as Strava or Fitbit that tracks your activity could be a good option.

Why does our weight change as we get older?

How do you determine if your bodyweight is changing?

If there are less calories than muscle mass, then weight loss is possible. This means that daily calories should be less than daily energy. Reduced activity is the leading cause of weight gain. Other factors include stress, illness and pregnancy. A person who has more fat than their muscle mass will experience weight gain. It occurs when people eat more calories than what they use in a given day. There are many reasons for this, including overeating and increased physical activity.

We eat less calories than we burn, which is the main reason our bodies lose weight. By exercising regularly, our metabolism rates increase which in turn burns more calories during the day. But, this does not mean that we will be thinner. It is important to know if we are losing weight or gaining muscle. If we are burning more calories than what we eat, then we will lose weight. But if we're consuming more calories than we're burning, then we're actually storing them as fat.

As we get older, our movement speed slows down and so we move less. We also tend to consume less food than when we were younger. Also, we are more likely to gain weight. We also tend to look larger because we have more muscle.

There's no way to tell how much weight you've lost unless you weigh yourself every week. There are many methods to measure your weight. You can check your waist size, your hips, your thighs, your arms, etc. Some prefer to use the bathroom scales, others prefer to use tape measures.

To track your progress, weigh yourself once a week. Measure your waistline once per month. You can also take photographs of yourself every few years to track how far your progress has been.

You can also find out how much you weigh by looking up your height and weight online. You'd likely weigh 180 pounds if you were 5'10 tall and 180 pounds if you were 180lbs.

What can I do to boost my immune system?

Human bodies are made up of trillions upon trillions of cells. These cells work together to form organs and tissues that perform specific functions. If one cell dies, a new cell takes its place. Hormones, which are chemical signals that allow cells to communicate with one another, enable them to do so. Hormones regulate all bodily processes, from growth and development to metabolism and immunity.

Hormones can be described as chemicals produced by glands in the body. They travel through bloodstreams and act as messengers that control the function of our bodies. Some hormones come from the body and others from outside.

When a hormone-producing gland releases their contents into the bloodstream, hormone production begins. Once released, hormones move through the body until they reach their target organ. Some hormones may only remain active for a limited time. Others hormones remain active longer and still have an influence on the body's functioning long after they leave bloodstream.

Some hormones may be produced in large numbers. Others are produced in small amounts.

Some hormones are made at certain times in our lives. Estrogen is one example. It's produced in puberty, pregnancy and menopause. Estrogen aids women in developing breasts, maintaining bone density and preventing osteoporosis. It is also known to promote hair growth and keep skin soft and smooth.

Which diet is best for me?

There are many factors that influence the best diet, including your gender, age, weight, health condition, lifestyle, and personal preferences. It is also important to think about how much energy you use during exercise and whether you like low-calorie foods.

Intermittent fasting is a good option if you're trying to lose weight. Intermittent fasting is a way to eat only certain meals during the day instead of three large meals. This may be a better option than traditional diets with daily calorie counts.

Intermittent fasting is believed to increase insulin sensitivity. It may also reduce inflammation. This may lead to a decrease in diabetes risk and blood sugar levels. Other research suggests that intermittent fasting may promote fat loss and improve overall body composition.

What is the difference of fat and sugar?

Fat is an energy source from food. Sugar is a sweet, naturally occurring substance in fruits and vegetables. Both fats and sugars provide the same number of calories. However, fats contain more than twice as many calories as sugars.

Fats are stored in your body and can cause obesity. They cause cholesterol buildup in arteries which may lead to heart attacks and strokes.

Sugars are quickly absorbed and provide instant energy. This causes blood sugar levels to rise. High blood glucose levels are dangerous as it can increase the likelihood of developing type 2 diabetes.

How To

What does the word "vitamin" mean?

Vitamins are organic compounds found naturally in food. Vitamins aid us in absorbing nutrients from the food we eat. The body cannot make vitamins; therefore, they must be obtained from food.

There are two types: water-soluble and fat-soluble vitamins. Water-soluble vitamins dissolve in water easily. Vitamin C,B1(thiamine), B2 (2riboflavin), and B3 (3niacin), as well as vitamin C,B1, B2 (riboflavin), and B3 (niacin), vitamin B6 (pyridoxine), vitamin folic acid (biotin), pantothenic, and choline are examples. Fat soluble vitamins are stored in the liver and fatty tissue. Vitamin D, E, K and A are some examples.

Vitamins are classified according to their biological activity. There are eight major types of vitamins:

  • A - Vital for normal growth and maintaining good health.
  • C – essential for proper nerve function.
  • D - Vital for healthy bones and teeth
  • E - Required for good vision & reproduction
  • K – Required for healthy nerves & muscles.
  • P – vital for building strong bones.
  • Q - Aids digestion and iron absorption
  • R – Required for the formation of red blood vessels.

The recommended daily intake (RDA), of vitamins varies with age, gender and physical condition. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) sets the RDA values.

For adults 19 years and over, the RDA of vitamin A is 400mg per day. Pregnant women require 600 micrograms daily to support fetal development. Children ages 1-8 require 900 micrograms per day. Infants below one year old require 700mg per day. But, between 9 months to 12 months, the amount drops to 500mg per day.

Children ages 1-18years who are obese need 800 micrograms per day while those who are overweight need 1000 micrograms per day and children who are underweight need 1200 micrograms per day to meet their nutritional needs.

Children between 4 and 8 years old with anemia will need 2200 micrograms daily of vitamin C.

Adults over 50 years of age need 2000 micrograms per day for general health. Because of their higher nutrient needs, women who are pregnant or nursing need 3000 mg per day.

Adults over 70 years of age need 1500 micrograms per day since they lose about 10% of their muscle mass each decade.

Women who are pregnant or nursing need more than the RDA. Pregnant mothers need 4000 micrograms per daily during pregnancy and 2500 after giving birth. Breastfeeding mothers need to consume 5000 micrograms every day when breastmilk has been produced.
